No Force

Shapeless it would twist like a hallucinogenic dream
Light would lash against it, emblazoned
Unlike the creatures of the night, it would stand forth, proud but formless
In spite of the darkness that covered it, it would laugh at its enemies
Never knowing its purpose, form or cast
Like in a maze, it would ooze itself all over, with a logic that defines the logic that so sought to bind it
She was in pain, of course, which wouldn't? For she called out in desperation
But where there was no medium for the plea to travel, for she was alone
All he could do was wait, wait for the nothingness to come and overpower him
Like that little jigsaw that was falling into play, formless, the being was a slave to its own form
For there was no force to guide it, bind it, hold it, comfort it.
For there was light that shone through it,
For all creatures made of light
For all the darkness that surrounded it
It was still a being of light

The following is a link to my stories that I've put in a separate blog. Hope you like it!

An Old Woman, The MTC and Me

The MTC as you might know is the Metropolitan Transport Corporation providing transport for 1000's of Chennaites including those among us who are fortunate enough to be able to afford a Rs.120-150 movie ticket(occasionally) but not fortious enough to have a chauffeur driven car.
There is always a sense of bonding among the people traveling in these kings of the city roads, a bond of brotherhood, comradeship and a sense of adjustment that lasts as long as your journey does. But less so for the pretty ladies.. because they are, well .. pretty ladies and so also for those of fair complexion and wearing a t-shirt, maybe its the anti-hindi under current or maybe its just the appearance of a seeming stranger much unlike the working class that populace the bus. It was on one of these days, when an almost 'once-in-a-life-time' opportunity of sitting down opened up before me. But lo! approached a deserving old lady with her little granddaughter, asking for the seat. My legs of course knew they could take the strain of holding on for a few more stops, and after their gracious go-ahead, I gladly asked the lady to take the seat. No, this wasn't your usual "thank you, you saved my life" kinda situation. The old lady simply sat down and stared out the window. But as I turned around to look at my co-passengers, the look of horror across their face was undeniable. I had given up a seat.
I had sinned. Or had I?

The law and constitution guarantees physical freedom.

Mental and psychological freedom, on the other hand has to be EARNED.

The Circle Of Hate

On a recent show that I saw, the chief protagonist challenges a bunch of terrorist as to why they had taken over a hotel and holding hostages, to which the leader of the terrorist fit replies that they want the world to know that they exist and the cause that they support. The protagonist kills him. The last word that the terrorist hears goes something like this "Terrorism should be a means to meet out justice, not for foolish propaganda like yours". This got me thinking.

What does modern terrorism really hope to achieve. Honestly, i don't know nor do I trust the media enough to trust what they say(even if they really DO). But the need for terrorism does stem from some injustice that has been carried out on the terrorist's country. And they believe that their acts of terrorism will rectify the damage that is done.

But what happens when you kill another human being? You destroy his/her family and friends. You make their lives miserable. Is that not an injustice on the person who is killed? Won't his/her associates want to extract justice(i.e. revenge) for the death? The circle of hate never stops. This circle is THE chief cause of all the blood shed in the world today. Think about it.

But a non-violent path breaks this circle. What is the worst that can happen if a strike or hartal is committed? It annoys the f*** out of the government. It constricts the economy, yes.. but the oppressors can have no reason to HATE the protesters. There will be no HATE.
Lets see how tanks can role over Iraqi people sitting on the street refusing them passage.

-After World War I, the British left Germany as their enemies. World War II followed.

-After India's struggle for freedom, the British left the country as friends and well wishers. They didn't turn around and shoot us dead again.

This might have been Gandhi's greatest achievement...

Art Appreciation

- Salavador Dali

The source of all energy,

The sacred fire within,

The light of all enlightenment,

The sacred feminine,

The third eye

No, i don't care what Dali really wanted it to represent or what the painting is really called.

To Give Or Not To Give

Heart:Give the poor girl some change. She could really use it.

Mind:This is so annoying, I was having such a good conversation. Now the flow is broken.Damn. Anyway lets see what the others do. Some one's bound to give some money and she'll go away.

Cousin: Dude, never give money to beggars. Begging should be treated as an industry and each time you give money to a beggar you are encouraging it. You are 'buying' your right to not feel pity. And the individual beggars don't even get the cash. It goes to the local goondas anyway and the beggars themselves get a small portion of it. If you don't give them cash, the industry'll die and begging will be eliminated. There should be a rule against it.

I followed me heart

Mind:Thank god thats over, +1 Karma eh? Thu you

Am I weak???

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

When all British bands are trying to either sound like U2 or The Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay's Viva La Vida is a breathe of fresh air in the music industry, but the good news stops there. This album is nowhere near their older albums. Granted, at least now they've stopped ripping of other bands (namely Radiohead,U2, Jeff Buckley...) but concentrated more on ripping themselves off, this album sounds like a mash up of Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head and X&Y. Now how on earth did they manage to do that you ask? Well, they didn't do an amazing job at that. Many songs simply have 2 parts to them(such as Yes!) where the 1st part sounds like a rejected portion of the Rush album and the second a rejected portion of God knows which song... Talk maybe??? The albums starts of with Life In Technicolor.. sorry.. SILENCE...the first 8 -10 seconds is just plain silence!!! I wonder if this was Brian Eno's idea of a joke, cuz it sure wasn't funny. The song in itself sounds like a jam session in Buckland's basement thanks to the shoddy production(does Brian Eno drink and produce albums??). What could have been THE song of the album was cut short to just 2:31 with absolutely no vocals... and there's always the annoying silence at the beginning of the track. And yes, Violet Hill is the best song on the album, and probably the only good song. But on my second and third listen, Strawberry Swing and Cemeteries Of London(a song sounding like it was meant for X&Y with some (completely unnecessary) added acoustic guitar in the background) seem tolerable. Lover's In Japan seemed quite good until U2's Where The Streets Have No Name and Coldplay's own Kingdom Come(X&Y's hidden track), towards the end, popped into mind. Martin's vocals are what gives the song identity of its own. Ah! and there 42!!! The answer to life, universe and the meaning of whatever it was that Douglas Adams wanted it to be the answer to. The end of all pointless conversations that seem to go in circles while questioning the larger questions of life, the bl@&%^ number 42. And the last place I expected to see it was on a Coldplay record. I wonder when Martin lost his imagination, and shouldn't a topic such as this be dealt with on X&Y, oh I'm sorry.. they ripped themselves off this time. Furthermore, Martin's underutilized vocal ability and Buckland's refusal to come up with brilliant riffs and a greater focus on the production is a huge let down. Oh! and the religious lyrics.. blah....

As a whole, the album lacks the warmth of Parachutes, the down to earth professionalism of A Rush Of Blood To The Head or the larger than life stadium rock of X&Y. It lacks the Coldplay sensitivity or the unique 'feel' that shot the band up the music charts. How could you let this happen Mr. Brain Eno?? How???
